Dubai World Record
Eagle Flight -
Burj Khalifa
OPTIMAL CONNECTIVITY contributed to the success of this Guinness World Record by designing and producing the mission critical components which enabled live transmission of 4K videos:
- Antenna attached to Darshan
- Distributed Antenna System over purpose-built fiber optic network
- Fiber optic cables
- Fiber optic media converters
- RF cable assemblies for broadcast equipment on ground and on helicopter
- Transmitters
The bird’s-eye view was streamed live when “Darshan” (the eagle’s name) flew 828 meters down to his owner from the top of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Darshan was equipped with a Sony Action Cam 4K camera, RF transmitter and OPTIMAL CONNECTIVITY “purpose-built” and “purpose-designed” eagle antenna. Cobham provided its latest transmitter SOLO7 HD Nano which allowed a seamless broadcast.
Darshan’s stunning flight was streamed live on BBC News on March 14, 2015 at 5:05 p.m. and broke the record of the highest recorded bird flight from a man-made structure. Since this event, only in YouTube, the multiple videos where viewed over 30 million times.
The project was under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. It was organized by Freedom Conservation in order to raise awareness about endangered birds.
The imperial eagle is trained by Jacques-Olivier Travers, who set up the Wings of Freedom project to help reintroduce adult eagles into their natural environment. The group has recorded eagle flights taking off from several landmarks in Europe (such as Eiffel Tower in Paris and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London) and also in U.A.E from Burj Al Arab and Desert Areas.
